[Mishmash] On my way to the hospital

Folks,

Also, I'm on my way to the hospital this morning. I have having
arthroscopic knee surgery. There appears to be a very small, loose object
in my left knee that is getting caught between the two bones (they think it
is a loose piece of calcified cartilage). It causes my knee to buckle and I
have to shift all my weight to my right leg to keep myself vertical. It has
never caused me to fall. I guess all that Tae Kwon Do training gave me that
ability.

I should be home by about five PM at the latest. Will try to let you
know how well it went. I'm going to be home bound for three days
afterwards.

To that end, my cablemodem has been down since Thursday. The cablemodem
technician finally came over yesterday morning and found that I had too many
splitters up under the house. He removed them and we got a good level.

However, I'm still having trouble with the cablemodem. I woke up this
morning to discover that my router had no IP address from the cablemodem
provider. I tried rebooting the router, but still didn't have any IP
address. So I rebooted the cablemodem and miraculously the router gained an
IP address from Mediacom. So I'm back up.

That's bad because I have Internet telephone service at home. If I
loose that IP address, I will not be able to receive telephone calls until I
reboot the cablemodem again. If I am not aware of it, I won't be able to
receive calls. If it goes down altogether, I will not be able to make or
receive calls. Since I won't be able to drive either, that's a big problem.

I called Mediacom about it. They are sending someone back here tomorrow
morning.

I've had Cisco look that router over. They can't find anything wrong
with it. But I'm also experiencing slow throughput.

Maybe they'll swap out the cablemodem unit itself and see if the problem
clears.

    Regards,

                                                            Fred
