Pebbly Beach is unique AFAIK. There is a spot a little south called
Murramarang. They have Kangaroos there in the caravan park. They are ok
but I had a funny incident a while back I took my Cub scout pack to visit in
the late afternoon. One cub got a bit carried away and managed to get
between a fairly large Joey and its mum as he tried to pet it. The Joey
took fright and bolted for mum. Pity the kid was in the way. He was bowled
out like a Pommy cricketer.
Now you have caught my eye. AFAIK Crimson Rosellas are not found outside Oz
unless they are in cages. I see a lot of them here and I talk to them by
whistles. They whistle back.
Cheers
David

Pebbly Beach was definitely a gem! We loved it! We figured it was unique
in terms of how friendly the kangaroos were. We were on our guard in other
areas where we hiked. We were told to be very aware of the wallaby's as
well in terms of their temper. They are smaller, but they still pack a good
punch.
We also got to feed Crimson Rosellas at a place we camped at in New Zealand,
I believe. I'm having a senior moment so can't remember where exactly. We
ran into a number of very interesting things. Had a Kea (sp?) steal one of
my tennis shoes from the vestibule. I had to chase after the bloody thing
and he was not keen on giving it up. Thankfully, I got it back before he
ate it. We kept our shoes in the tent after that.

Wow Ingrid, you found one of the gems of the south coast. Pebbly Beach is a
real treasure. When my daughter was little, we went down there for a day.
She was feeding Grey Kangaroos slices of bread. As she became gamer she
started to hold the slices higher and higher to make them reach up. One got
jack of this and put his hands on her shoulders. It was a hoot. They are
very familiar with people though.
There used to be a goanna there. He was huge, like about 2 metres. When he
walked down the path, people stepped aside. Me too J
Cheers

When Eric and I were on our honeymoon in Australia, we camped at Pebbly
Beach State Park. There were kangaroos everywhere. One night just after we
went to sleep in our tent, I heard this strange sound. I unzipped the inside
portion of the front door and there, in the vestibule area, was a kangaroo
nestling in for the night. He/She was cleaning him/herself. The only thing
between me and it was a thin sheet of meshlike material. I wasn't scared.
As a matter of fact, I started laughing so hard I scared it away. The
following morning Eric tried to eat his cornflakes and found the only place
high enough to keep the bowl from the kangaroos wanting some, was the top of
our rental car. They were fun and definitely made our trip very enjoyable.
Granted, I'm sure these were very tame and not the norm, but I liken them to
deer. They don't generally attack, to my knowledge, unless probably
provoked or protecting their young.
