[Mishmash] Explain please!

Hugh,
I disagree.
Stem cell research can bring about the worst in people.
As an example: Why is the sale of child pornography illegal? The answer is that because to get child pornography, the pornographers have to exploit children. Because people buy this junk, bad things happen to children. Were their no demand for child pornography, those perverts that make this junk wouldn't exploit children.
Now there is a market for this material. Where there is a way to make money, people will exploit it. Soon, there would be a black market (if there isn't already one) for embryo tissue.
I don't understand all this argument about when a fetus becomes a life. It is living tissue that develops into a living being. Who thinks they have to right to take a human life? A lot of people, unfortunately.
Regards,
Fred Atkinson

There is no reason to veto the bill . . . except one. What strict religious constructionists will always say is that, because nobody can identify a point where an embryo truly becomes viable (remember, that point has moved earlier and earlier as medicine has advanced), the only valid position is that all are. Go back just 25-30 years and babies born at 4-5 months were pretty much not going to make it, and now they routinely due.
That same group will also say those embryos were not "discarded", but murdered by the process.
While I don't agree with Bush's position, its a nice change to have a president with convictions that last more than the latest polls.

Can someone on this list please explain to me the moral virtue of the President vetoing the bill for Stem Cell Research. I hate thinking his reasons are that God will send him to hell without an electric fan is he signs it into law. Is there some trap door to this being made into law that I haven't caught on to? The benefits seem to have a very high ceiling. And there are also other discoveries that science hasn't even thought of that come from these things too. I try to be open minded, but I don't want a veto on religious grounds. Let Iran do that. The answer should be right or wrong for the country. Not heaven or hell.
