My brother has lived in Florida for several years. About 10 years ago he
lived in a house on Lake Jessup. He told me that there were alligators
there and to be careful when I went out in the yard. Not living in Florida
I just sorta thought he might be overly cautious. The next day he took me
out on Lake Jessup in a boat, and as we were moving along in the boat, being
a curious sort of person, I asked him " what are all those humps in the
water?" He told me that were alligators and I understood his caution then.

He said they would crawl into your yard and lay down. He had a dog and he
said he had to severely reprimand it when he caught it near the water
because the alligators would eat people's pets around the lake. It's
horrible to think of the alligators getting to a child.

I certainly didn't take any night walks outside. He definitely would kill
one then, if it became destructive to him or his property, I don't look at
it as killing endangered species, it's something like survival.

I realize that some people get enjoyment out of killing senselessly and
that is what the laws are for, but my opinion is to save the manatees, they
are harmless, they can have the alligators. We can put a few of the
alligators in a zoo somewhere and save them.

I think Gale is right, the laws are made by someone who didn't have them
growing in their back yard.

Fortunately my brother moved out of there shortly after that.

Linda
