Well, Carole, being fat is another no-no in society today. People have had to buy 2 seats on planes because they've been too fat to sit in one seat. Here in Canada, the health care system (crumbling at best) is addressing the issue of both smokers and fat people - they are self-inflecting illnesses on them and the question coming more and more often is whether or not society should bear the burden of paying for health care for these people.
However, all these fat people are not hurting anyone but themselves - unless, of course, one of these bingo players should sit on you - the smoker who gets in my space with a cigarette in his/her hand is endangering my health as well as his own. I made a conscious decision in my younger days not to smoke and don't want that right of choice (so long as it lasts) infringed upon by someone who could care less about his own health, let alone mine.
