I was surprised about the size of some performers that I have been
fortunate enough to have personally seen. The one that stands out
most was Willie Nelson, he was just so small but came over as such a
great performance.

I was very moved with the the Anne Margaret story. My husband was
called up for national service in Australia. Vietnam was very
unpopular politically and the two years he served his country was
often very difficult. We were so lucky he got a training posting in
Australia but the day to day agro with the public when we went out
was really bad when I think back. It wasn't his choice, conscripts
were picked out of a lottery in Australia by your birthday so it
really was the luck of the draw. He was often made feel it was his
fault the war was happening when all he and a lot of good men were
doing what the government of the day ordered them to do. When they
didn't need them anymore they were returned without so much as a
thank you from anyone.

I wonder how many people today could be taken out of their jobs for
two years and come back and pick up from when they were taken away.
My husband was 20 at the time so when he returned anyone who was not
conscripted in his workplace was well up the corporate ladder ahead
of him.

What I feel is often forgotten is the families behind the men and
women who fight for their country and pick up the pieces that are
sent home.

yes I was very moved by the Anne Margaret story.

>Several years ago I was given tickets to hear a speaker brought in
>dealing with successful women. I think it was either Sally Fields or
>Patty Duke - terrible that I can't remember.

>Anyway, this person couldn't come and Anne Margaret came in her place.
>She was marvellous - she said it was her initiation into public speaking
>and she didn't have much prepared but she spoke for over an hour about
>coming from Norway and how her career got started and all the wonderful
>people who helped her along the way - and making films with Elvis and
>the Grumpy Old Men. She talked about her personal life - I thought a bit
>too much as she told us where she jogged every day, etc. - she won me
>over talking about the rescues she had taken in over the years and her
>current cat family. She appeared very down to earth and a truly kind
>person. Physically, I couldn't believe how tiny she is - the podium
>dwarfed her so she didn't spend much time behind it.
>
>Don't want to ramble but after the positive note about her yesterday, I
>wanted to add my own personal impression of her - very positive!
