Fred,
Because you asked a question on this one, I felt compelled at this moment to correspond about what I think is going on with our policemen.
They are out there on the highways trying to make it safer for those of us who are out there. They risk their lives everyday to make it a safer place for us to be. They pull over criminals, "crack heads", people who have had to much to drink, and people who are belligerent and unruly and they have to cope with wondering each time someone is pulled over, if that person is a danger to them, himself, or others. They do not have to take these risks, they chose to protect and serve us.
On Saturday of this week the managing director of the company I work and his wife were slaughtered with their children in the home and one of those children in a wheel chair with permanent disability. He had killed two people and seriously wounded another before he drove to Canandaigua and slaughtered Chris and his wife. This man would not have hesitated to shoot a policemen if he had been pulled over on his death journey, he had nothing to lose. He had already shot a woman, and two good people who tried to stop him from brutally killing the woman.

There are nearly 70 employees of a premier senior living community including myself who are devastated and 110 elderly residents grieving also who knew Chris and his wife well and loved him for his kind, helpful and considerate ways.
This man and many others like him all over the nation are on the highways everyday, last week in Rochester a 14 year old shot a policemen in the head, and as in any employment perhaps there some policemen who get a little overbearing in nature, but then we don't know what they have been through out there trying to make a safer place for us to live and work. Cameras are for that purpose to see what happens with both the driver and the police. I'm sure that the policemen in those tapes were judged by their supervisors and action was taken if it was needed.
I commend them for their chosen profession.
Linda

Subject: [Mishmash] What is going on with our police?
What is going on with our police?
First, there's the idiotic Officer Rindal in Minneapolis.
Before I moved to Las Cruces, we had an incident where a police officer manhandled a citizen seriously injuring him because of something that he said to himself, quietly inside his vehicle. The city lost that one and the monetary award was huge.
There's the BART officer in California that murdered a suspect that was already restrained.
Then there is tasering of an emotionally distraught person in Florida.
Now there is a dead man over use of a taser by officers.
I have in the past believed in the law enforcement community. But lately, I am getting quite concerned and frightened at some of the things that are going on.
I thank God for those video cameras in the police cars so that we get to see the truth about what happened.
Why aren't the citizens going ballistic over this?
Why aren't the good officers speaking out against the actions taken in these incidents?
Where are our lawmakers when these things happen? What are they doing about things like this?
I just don't understand any more.
Fred Atkinson
