I do believe they overdo the toll roads here in the U.S.. Our taxes are supposed to pay for that. We should not have to pay for traveling a road that is built by the government from our money. But if they use the toll revenue to pay for construction of the road, the tolls should cease as soon as they have recovered the money and the interest paid on it. Sometimes that happens. Sometimes it doesn't. Take Virginia for example. They keep the toll for the roads to the airport and other places. But with all the money they take in they should have paid for the toll roads long ago, especially the toll road to Dulles Airport. So why don't they stop?
Nassau County here in New York has a toll road commission. It was established back in the 1930s to administer tolls on bridges and roads where bonds were use to fund building. The idea was as soon as something was paid for the tolls would end.
Tolls were only set on one small bridge in the county. They were set back in the 1930s and the bridge paid for right after WWII.
Tolls are still collected . . . to cover paying the toll collectors and commission members.
While everyone and every business is reacting to the economy by shrinkage or deferring expense, our wonderful elected fools are reacting by either asking for money from another part of government (meaning in the end our pockets) or raising tax rates.
I find our current crop of inmates at the DC nut house very scary . . . when any one party controls all the rings in the circus, there is nobody to keep them under control.
