[Mishmash] Obama? Oh, Please!

>No problem, Fred....as you well know, South Carolina is a Republican stronghold, so I'm vastly outnumbered.

How well I know that. I still have family members living there.

New Mexico (at least the part I live in) is a very conservative state, too. I find myself agreeing with much of the philosophy around here.

>I don't agree with everything Obama is doing, but do think he will do a good job in turning this country around. After the last eight years, it could not get much worse.

I think you're very wrong about that. No one person can make that much difference.

>No, I abhored Bush and his dictatorial handling of the presidency.

I didn't agree with everything that Bush was doing. But after he inherited dealing with 9/11, he did well. Tough times come and require tough methods. I shudder to think where we would have been if we had elected Kerry.

I fully expect we are going to get another terrorist hit. It is going to take another wake up call to make everyone realize what the reality of the matter is. A lot of conservatives already realize that.

>"Gush" Limbaugh is one of my least favorite people in the world, along with Bill O'Reilly, Glen Beck and Sean Hannity. We stopped watching Fox news several years ago.

I don't think Rush is far off track. But I do think he's in it for attention. But I don't have much of a problem with the folks from Fox News.

>Whatever happens in the next 4-8 years, I do know most of our troops will be out of Iraq and, hopefully, back home with their families. This war is the biggest travesty of our lifetime. We do need to send more troops to Afghanistan, but I doubt it helps. Look how long the Russians tried to defeat them and finally gave up and withdrew.

And what will the condition be in Iraq? Will all of our dead soldiers have died to put the seeds of democracy into the Middle East only to have Obama pull our troops out with quite finishing the job? What about Afghanistan. Will we let Al Qaaeda and the Taliban reinstate themselves because Obama doesn't want to involve himself in the war?

>There is no magic wand to change the economy overnight or, as you said, in the next few years. It took eight years of undoing regulation of the banking and investment industy to accomplish this recession. It will probably take twice that amount of time to rebuild our economy.

That's correct. But Obama thinks he can do it. And that is frightening because he'll do things that will make it worse.

>Obama is a dedicated husband and father, is highly intelligent, a good listener (something Bush never did), and has the best interests of this country at heart. He will make mistakes, but at the same time, he will implement health care for those who do not have it, lower taxes, no taxes for retirees, stem cell research, and diplomatic outreach to the Middle East.

It takes more than that to run the country. But I do not believe he has the best interests of the country at heart. Like most liberals, he has his own agenda.

>So let's watch the new administration as it stumbles, and, at times, exceeds our expectations. At least he is taking action domestically and internationally where it is much needed.

I think his domestic and international actions will be blind and disastrous. There will be a lot of stumbling. But he will never meet expectations, much less exceed them.

>We all have our own opinions, and I highly respect this. So we just agree to disagree and remain friends.

That has always been the cornerstone of Mishmash. We agree to disagree. There will be no flaming because of differing opinions. And you will all remember that I've always enforced that rule.
