"Claims to be"? Who, in this country, would consider him something
other than black? Anyone with mixed-race blood is automatically
consigned to whatever category bigots consider the lower class of
human, and for a long time they were barely considered human. A
"mulatto" has no choice in the matter; he's pre-designated from birth.
On the other hand, an ivy-league education and presidency of the law
review are hardly qualities one normally associates with "lower
classes", are they?

What thing? That the Islamist terrorists want a Muslim world? Of
course they do; they've made that point quite clear. Sounds like
your Liberals have their heads on straight.

Agreed. I haven't heard anyone in a responsible position in the
States arguing that point. The bleeding hearts are another matter;
it's comforting to know you have your share up in Canada. I'd hate to
think we had a monopoly on 'em. :-)

You may be confusing two issues involving Muslims. There are the
Taliban-type religious fanatics who long for the return of the
caliphate and the re-conquest of all the regions that Islam once
ruled, from Spain to the Middle East. There are, separately, those
whose issues are less religious than political; they want to regain
the lands their families left when the state of Israel was created,
and the abolition of Israel as what they consider a usurper.
Unfortunately, they have adopted the same terrorist tactics: suicide
bombings and the murder of civilians, that gain them no sympathy from
the outside world.
Never having heard of Omar Khadr, I can't comment on his case, but
only say that I agree with you that anyone who presents a danger to
society should be kept away from it. As for the delay in his trial,
I can only point out that his trial was treated the same as all the
other pending trials -- delayed, not canceled. The secrecy with
which the Gitmo prisoners were treated made that the most prudent
course, since so many of the prisoners there were being held on the
flimsiest of evidence and the courts will need time to sort out the
facts. Don't forget that the military "trials" were being conducted
under political, not legal guidelines.
