[Mishmash] Obama? Oh, Please!

Maybe I am missing something but why does everyone feel a need to send more troops to Afghanistan? The Australian PM makes the same comment.
People have been trying to dominate Afghanistan since the 18th century at least and they have all failed. The Brits, the Ruskies and now the World.
What is the gain? The country is dry and horrible. They have no resources. They have no influence. They are a bunch of tribes who hate each other. I just don’t get it.
If I had my way we would send the troops down to Africa and, starting with Zimbabwe, clean up a bunch of dictators and get them back onto the straight and narrow.
Cheers
David

No problem, Fred....as you well know, South Carolina is a Republican stronghold, so I'm vastly outnumbered.
I don't agree with everything Obama is doing, but do think he will do a good job in turning this country around. After the last eight years, it could not get much worse.
No, I abhored Bush and his dictatorial handling of the presidency.
"Gush" Limbaugh is one of my least favorite people in the world, along with Bill O'Reilly, Glen Beck and Sean Hannity. We stopped watching Fox news several years ago.
Whatever happens in the next 4-8 years, I do know most of our troops will be out of Iraq and, hopefully, back home with their families. This war is the biggest travesty of our lifetime. We do need to send more troops to Afghanistan, but I doubt it helps. Look how long the Russians tried to defeat them and finally gave up and withdrew.
There is no magic wand to change the economy overnight or, as you said, in the next few years. It took eight years of undoing regulation of the banking and investment industy to accomplish this recession. It will probably take twice that amount of time to rebuild our economy.
Obama is a dedicated husband and father, is highly intelligent, a good listener (something Bush never did), and has the best interests of this country at heart. He will make mistakes, but at the same time, he will implement health care for those who do not have it, lower taxes, no taxes for retirees, stem cell research, and diplomatic outreach to the Middle East.
So let's watch the new administration as it stumbles, and, at times, exceeds our expectations. At least he is taking action domestically and internationally where it is much needed.
We all have our own opinions, and I highly respect this. So we just agree to disagree and remain friends.
Linda
