[Mishmash] Obama? Oh, Please!

Hi Carole,

I understand all the propaganda. I can’t speak for all of them but I know that many have not been released because their case has never been tried.

Take for example David Hicks. He spent 5 years there without a trial. In the end there was a lot of political pressure and his case was brought to court. He pleaded guilty to “providing material support for terrorism”, whatever that may be, and was sentenced to 1 year in gaol. The evidence was never presented to the legal system. In essence I think he was victimised and never had his case properly judged. I suspect this is representative of many more.

Just to say someone is a crim and lock them up does not make them a crim. That is McCarthyism, not justice.

It is interesting that some of the people released have “gone back to terrorism”. I am assuming that your penal systems is similar to ours. Here it is the university of crime. Novice crims go to gaol and come out seasoned professionals. Perhaps the same thing at Guantanamo Bay? There is also an old adage along the lines of call a dog a cur often enough and people will see a cur. Perhaps he became a terrorist because he was told he was one? I just don’t know.

Don’t get me wrong. I feel for the US and I am reasonably confident that many of the people detained deserve to be locked up. I just don’t understand why they are not tried under your justice system and dealt with accordingly.

Regards

David

these people are accused of war crimes - considering the percentage that have been released and have gone back to being terrorists (one was recently named head of some terrorist activity by bin ladan) i don't think there are many that are innocent. why do i call these people bad people? because their mission in life is to kill as many non-muslims as they can - including children any way they can. war crime criminals are not privy to the same rights as regular criminals - they never have been and they certainly shouldn't be now. that's just my opinion - actually - my opinion is we could bomb all of gitmo and that would solve the problem. no need for you to "prophetlitize" to me about it - that's how i feel and there's no changing my mind and i ain't feeling guilty about it. in fact - i would guess that atleast 46% of america feels the same way........that would be about 85% of the land mass of this country.

Sorry I am a bit late off the mark but I have to ask a question. Assuming gitmo is Guantanamo Bay, how can you say the inmates are bad ones when they have never been found guilty of anything? Doesn’t the US still believe in innocent until proven guilty? It seems to me that as the US invited (compelled) these people to go to Cuba then they are honour bound to accept them into the US if they close down the Cuban Gaol. If there is still the belief that they have committed a crime, put them in a mainland gaol and try them in a court of law. It is all very easy from there. If they are innocent they are freed; if they are guilty they stay in gaol for a period.

Regards

David

fred - you left out the closing of gitmo with no plans of what to do with the detainees there. bring them over here? put them in the prison across the river from me? people escape from there often. i dont want them setting themselves off in my town. no other place wants them either - they are a bad sort. 73 of the ones they've let out of gitmo have gone back to terrorism.
