Richard, 

       I remember quite well.  I was a television transmitter operator for SCETV for many years.  They used to play it at sign off quite regularly.  

       Do you know the story of the man who wrote the poem?  His name was John Gillespie Magee.  The poem was circulated by his parents after he died in a plane crash.
