Carole,

     Drupal is a content management system.  You can learn about it at
http://drupal.org .

     It is incredible how much it can do.  There are an enormous number of
modules to add to it.  For example, there are modules that support
PayPal, incorporate Facebook and similar services, online commerce,
inventory, and a lot of other things.  Take a look at my list of
modules at http://www.mishmash.me/fav_modules .

     There are also a bunch of themes available that you can install and
completely change the look and layout of your site.

     Drupal is currently at version 7.  Version 8 is under development. 
If you want to participate in Drupal 8 development, you can download
and install it for testing and development.
