Message As far as all of this ransom paying that the shipping lines are doing, wasn't it Winston Churchill that said, 'An appeaser is one who feeds a crocodile hoping that it will eat him last!'?
Americans did not put up with this. They did not pay the ransom. They did what they had to do. And they did it well.
As long as ransoms are paid, piracy will be perpetuated.
As far as those Somali pirates saying that they will take revenge? Well, they can also answer to the U.S. Navy. If they think they can take on one of our destroyers, then let them try.
When those Navy snipers fire, they don't miss. They hit their target. And that was more than adequately demonstrated here.
When I visited a booth across the street from the Lincoln Memorial, I discovered that it was run by Viet Nam era veterans. They had a sign up and I think that it really applies here as well: Evil thrives when good men do nothing.
Obviously, we had some good men in those merchant marines, their captain, and our Navy. These men wouldn't even think of doing nothing. Their actions clearly spelled that out. A gallant crew, a gallant captain, and gallant Navy personnel.
It is the kind of spirit that is one of many things that makes me proud to be an American. Now if all of the rest of the world would show that kind of spirit, the world would be a lot better place to live in. I know there are nations that do (Australia being one of them) but I wish the rest would get on board.
Maybe now that we've shown them you don't have to put up with that kind of rubbish that some of them will.
God Bless the U.S.A..
Regards,
Fred

I fall into the category of what Winston Churchill once described as "a former naval person". As such, I am proud of all the sailors involved in the rescue. OO-RAH to the SEALS. Fly Navy!

The Navy rescued the Captain killing three of the four pirates. The fourth was wonded as is now in custody. The FBI is looking into extraditing him to the U.S. to face charges of piracy and kidnapping.
The Captain is now on the Navy ship. He is resting comfortably but is in good overall spirits and in good condition. He has not spoken to the media as yet.
Maersk (the owners of the ship) has made a statement that was very powerful and gallant. They said that the details of the rescue would be issued by the Navy.
That Captain has shown the world what being an American is all about, character, courage, and conviction. And those Navy seals that rescued him did a pretty fair job of displaying the same thing.
This reminds me of some of the reasons I am proud to be an American.
God Bless the U.S.A.,
Fred
