Well, Pat,

Being on a soapbox is a lot better than standing idly by while people like this getting away with this kind of ridiculous garbage.

I'd say you are right. I sent a nastygram to their town council about it, too. Here is the email response I got last night.

                                                                    Fred

Mr. Fred Atkinson

P.O. 1000

Las Cruces, NM 88004

Dear Mr. Atkinson:

This will acknowledge and thank you for your communication regarding the City of Clearwater’s sign code and its impact on “The Complete Angler.” As you know, the City of Clearwater having been sued on this matter, I, as a city councilman, cannot address the case specifically.

However, while I believe the city’s sign ordinance may be too restrictive, it is the current rule, which all businesses must follow. The city’s staff is tasked with enforcing those codes uniformly throughout the City of Clearwater and not selectively based on individual preferences or economic times.

Although I would support the city’s sign ordinances being changed to recognize creativity and to permit businesses to show their uniqueness, I do not believe the codes should be repealed; I do not want to return to the sign “pollution” that had once been the norm throughout Clearwater. For this reason, I am pleased that the Clearwater Chamber of Commerce, at the request of the City Council, has formed a committee to recommend changes to the current ordinances. Then, the City Council will have to approve their adoption.

In the meantime, please understand that The Complete Angler is permitted signage that is subject to current rules on size, location, and quantity restrictions. Like all businesses in Clearwater, the owner must pursue the permitting process that would determine what other signage or display is allowed on the property.

Again, thank you for taking time to express your concerns, and in spite of the lawsuit filed against the City of Clearwater, I will continue to do what I can to encourage those efforts that would allow greater flexibility in the permitting of signs throughout Clearwater.

With warm, personal regards, I am

Sincerely,

  hey fred

it makes u wonder what kind of people are running this country. everyone seems to be on their on agenda and to hell with the country and all the peoplethat disagree. all the politician are corrupt they quit caring about what is best and only caring a bout what it takes to be re-elected. say anything but do nothing. two years ago the alabama legislature did nothing except to vote themselves a 60% pay increaseand nothing else. last year they argued the whole session over 2or 3 different items and pased nothing. their are several that are going to make it an objective to remind the people of this state of this next election.

sorry to get on my soapbox. hows it going

  pat
