[Rebels1972] At Least 72 Dead as Storms Pound South for Second Day

I don't think Alabama has ever gotten anything like the level of tornado
activity like what Tuscaloosa got. The sad thing is, Tuscaloosa is getting
a lot of the press because we have good footage of the storm approaching.
There is destruction everywhere in North Alabama. There are small towns
that are just gone. My wife and I want to volunteer to help out but there
is so much need that we haven't decided where to start yet. My next week is
slow, so I am hoping to put some disaster relief time in then.

Everyone in my family is fine, but pray for all the families with no homes
or worse, lost lives.

Tony

Tony,

I'm glad you and your immediate family are all right. How about
David and your other two siblings? Your parents?

Has anyone heard from Johnny Snyder since the storm?

I've heard the reports on Fox News about Tuscaloosa. It doesn't
sound good.

Let's keep those people in our prayers.

Las Cruces is notorious for winds. They issue a Level 1 wind alert
when the winds reach thirty-five miles an hour here. Then we get a Level 2
wind alert when the winds reach fifty-five miles an hour. They send it over
our office email. Some of our people have to drive north to White Sands
Missile Range to get home. That is over several mountains from here.
That's a perilous trip when we reach Level 2. Fortunately, I drive south to
get home. I lose about a thousand feet of altitude from when I leave work
to when I get home. The road isn't mountainous south of where I work. And
the drive home is about twenty-five miles. I've considered finding an
apartment north of town so I don't have to drive so far. I would still be
south of my work place.

We also get some serious monsoons in the July/August time frame.
I've seen distant monsoons in the sky since I've been here. I've never seen
the sky look as ugly as that anywhere else I've lived except during
huricanes and tornadoes. But the monsoons are not treacherous weather. In
this desert area, we are glad to get them. And when you are in them (as
opposed to watching them at a distance), they don't look nearly so ugly for
some reason. I'm not at all afraid to drive in a monsoon.

I've been through hoards of Level 1 and Level 2 wind alerts since
I've been here (July will be three years now, can you believe that?). But
so far, we've not gotten anything like what Tuscaloosa got.

Regards, and Thank God for his blessings.

                                                         Fred
