Subject: "Ground Zero Cross" under attack

Grassfire Update:

Since launching the "Save the Ground Zero Cross" petition a few days ago, Grassfire has learned that the ACLU is targeting cross displays across America. From New York to California, memorial crosses are under attack from the far-Left group, which says these displays are unconstitutional.

KATHY, the truth is that the phrase "separation of church and state" isn't even in the Constitution. The First Amendment states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof."

Displaying the "Ground Zero Cross" is not an "establishment of religion." It wasn't even created by a person! The "Miracle Cross," as it's also known, became a symbol of hope to thousands (maybe even millions) in the aftermath of the worst day in American history.

In a nation that identifies itself as nearly 80 percent Christian, shouldn't reasonable people be able to agree there's room for this symbol in the National September 11 Memorial and Museum?

You're one of the more than 10,000 grassroots Americans who have signed the "Save the Ground Zero Cross" petition since Grassfire launched it two days ago. It's a great start, but we're still well short of the 50,000-signatures needed for delivery.

So we need your help. We've included our email announcing this national petition below. Please take a moment to forward it to your friends and family members. Urge them to stand with you by clicking here to sign<http://www.grassrootsaction.com/r.asp?U=410865&CID=201122&RID=41861758> "Save the Ground Zero Cross" petition. Or you can click here to share<http://www.grassrootsaction.com/r.asp?U=410866&CID=201122&RID=41861758.> the petition on Facebook.

Thank you for the stand you're taking.

KATHY,

Atheists upset and angered over the "Ground Zero Cross" are suing to have the inspirational structure removed from the National September 11 Memorial and Museum. The cross-shaped steel beams played an inspirational role in the days, weeks and months following the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.

[Photo by Samuel Li]<http://www.grassrootsaction.com/r.asp?U=410868&CID=201122&RID=41861758>Uncovered by construction worker Frank Silecchia in the aftermath of the collapse, the "Ground Zero Cross" -- or "Miracle Cross" -- became an iconic image of faith and hope. "I was already working 12 hours," Silecchia told The Washington Times. "I was quite weary and the cross comforted me."

Now, that same cross is under fire by atheists who claim having it displayed on public ground violates separation of church and state. "We are worried about the alienation being suffered by atheists," says the group's legal director.

+ + Take Action: Stand For The "Ground Zero Cross"

Grassfire has launched a national "Save The Ground Zero Cross" petition to give Americans a platform to stop any plans to remove it from the September 11 Memorial and Museum.

If you oppose this effort to remove this steel cross that served as a rally point for rescuers and first responders during the 9/11 tragedy, go here now to sign the "Stop Atheists From Removing 'The Ground Zero Cross'" petition<http://www.grassrootsaction.com/r.asp?U=410869&CID=201122&RID=41861758>:

Your petition will be delivered to key leaders as a dramatic show of grassroots support for keeping the "Ground Zero Cross" on public display. When it comes to the reasons why American patriots should take action to save the "Miracle Cross," Frank Silecchia said it best: "I never ... said it's about religion. But I say it's about faith -- the faith that was crushed on 9/11."

Go here now to sign the "Save the Ground Zero Cross" national petition<http://www.grassrootsaction.com/r.asp?U=410871&CID=201122&RID=41861758>:
