Folks,
I am scheduled to play that old black gospel version of Swing Low, Sweet Chariot that most of you have heard me play at FBCLC.
I will be playing it this Sunday at First Southern Baptist Church of Avondale (FSBCA). That is the church I was attending when I first came to Phoenix to start job hunting nearly two years ago. Since I have moved back in with Bill for now, I am attending there again. It is near his house.
I will be playing it again at my other church (Valley Baptist) in Mesa on June 18th. As I was going back to Mesa (a fifty mile drive from Bill's house) to play it on the eighteenth, I spoke with Mary Kaye (minister of music at FSBCA) and volunteered to play for her, too!
She had me audition and was in the back dancing while I played (Mary Kaye is a person who always radiates joy. You should see her feet dance when she conducts the choir). Then she got the pastor to come hear me. When I finished playing for him, he said, "Fred, you told me you could play the flute. You really *can* play the flute!". He seemed astounded.
So Mary Kaye scheduled me to play at FSBCA on June 4th. I will play for both services. Of late, I am not used to getting up that early, though.
I was at rehearsal at FSBCA last night. Mary Kaye gave me a list of the music and persons who would be singing / playing this Sunday. After my name, she put 'he is amazing' on that sheet.
Please keep me in prayer for both performances that they may best serve the Lord.
Regards,
Fred
